Mawa cake could have been slightly less sweet.
We took fortune cookies and Ginger cookies - go for them if you are looking for less sweet, and sumptuous bakery item.
This place is great reminder of rawness of Mumbai, old shop tucked in streets of Colaba :)
Yazdani Bakery is one of those places in Mumbai that feels frozen in time. Started in 1953, it has been run by the same family for generations and still carries the old Irani café charm. The bakery is located in an old heritage building near Fort and Colaba, and the moment you step inside, you feel like you’ve walked into a different era — with its wooden furniture, old photographs, and simple, no-nonsense setup.
Yazdani is best known for its brun maska (soft bun with butter) and Irani chai, which is probably the most popular order here. Their mawa cake is legendary — rich, soft and full of flavour — and often sells out quickly. Other favourites include khari biscuits, apple pie, plum cake, and freshly baked breads and cookies. Everything tastes homemade and fresh, which is what keeps people coming back.
The place is not fancy, and service is simple, but that’s part of its charm. You come here not for luxury, but for nostalgia, honest food, and a slice of old Bombay. If you want to experience Mumbai’s Irani café culture and enjoy some classic bakery items, Yazdani is a must-visit.

Yazdani Bakery is a very old and iconic bakery tucked away in the streets of Colaba. The moment you step in, it feels like you’ve gone back to the 1990s, with its preserved old-world charm and vintage vibe.
I tried their mawa cake, which was slightly on the expensive side for the size, but the taste was really good. It was soft, flavorful, and had a lovely hint of cardamom coming through, which made it quite enjoyable.
People usually visit Yazdani Bakery for their cookies, especially the famous fortune cookies, which are quite popular here.

Visited this bakery, which is one of the oldest Irani bakeries in town. I truly appreciate the people who are still running it and maintaining the traditional taste and old-style preparation. I tried their classic mawa cake and fortune cookies; however, the taste was quite average and didn’t meet my expectations. I also felt the prices were high for the quality offered.
Other products might be much better, but this was my personal experience. Still, anyone who enjoys trying new things or exploring old, heritage bakeries in the city can definitely give it a try.
