I spent three lovely days at The Lailit, which is a 5 Star hotel, close to the airport.
Before I travelled I asked the reception team a couple of questions. Their response was efficient, but not particularly friendly.
Once at the hotel, I was amazed at the sheer scale of the reception area and ground floor, it's very impressive and absolutely stunning. Check in was quick and efficient and the room was lovely, though I'm not sure why none of the balcony doors seem to open. The room was very well equipped and everything felt very premium.
My daily housekeeper Manish, made sure that the room was cleaned perfectly each day and well stocked up. Breakfast was a good quality buffet with choice for all nationalities.
The pool area was fabulous, with plenty of sun loungers and a nice big pool.
We ate in the restaurant one evening and although the quality was good, we considered the food and drink quite expensive.
If I was staying in Mumbai again, I would most certainly consider The Lailit again.
There was a huge amount of security to enter the building. I understand why but again wonder why staff couldn't be warmer and more friendly.
This was a hotel that I liked but never felt loved.

Pure Luxury !!!
The iconic lobby of this hotel is a place where you can sit and relax for hours. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.

There multiple restaurants inside which offer great variety of cuisines. I had dinner at The Baluchi restaurant, during my stay and the food was absolutely amazing.

The rooms are amazing, and gives you the luxury vibe that you have paid for.

The stay was worth every penny and I will surely return here.

Excellent stay, extremely great service!
I had booked a stay at The Lalit for a business trip and it was the best decision I made. The service is amazing and the staff is most helpful.
My son had forgotten something very important after we checked out, but Mr. Arjun Gaikwad from Lost and found immediately came to my rescue and sent it to us through courier.
Would love to stay there next time as well!
Thanks!

I stayed at The Lalit Mumbai as part of a group of doctors attending a conference, having flown in on early morning flights (4-5 AM). Mr. Nalin from the hotel had previously assured us that rooms would be available from 11 AM for those arriving early.
Unfortunately, the reality was far different. I arrived around 10-11 AM and was asked to wait until 2 PM for check-in. Over the next 3+ hours in the lobby, I personally witnessed at least 15 guests check out, yet no rooms were assigned to our group despite multiple polite requests.
The front desk staff seemed unaware of Mr. Nalin’s assurance—one staff member even said he didn’t know Mr. Nalin and, when called, reported that Mr. Nalin was on leave and unavailable. Decisions were repeatedly deferred with phone calls to unspecified superiors, leading to long delays and no clear answers.
Even a simple request for lunch arrangements (so we could attend our 3 PM conference session without going hungry after long travel) went unanswered for over 30 minutes. Many of us were exhausted from red-eye flights, yet basic courtesy and coordination were lacking.
While the hotel’s property and location are impressive, this experience fell well short of the standards expected from a property of this caliber—especially when specific assurances were given in advance. It was frustrating and unprofessional, particularly for professional guests like doctors attending an important event.
I hope the management reviews their early check-in communication, staff coordination, and guest support processes. A more empathetic and decisive approach would make a significant difference.
Would not recommend relying on verbal assurances for early arrival here.

The hotel is very old and appears almost run-down. The staff, in general, came across as rigid and unwelcoming, with little sense of hospitality or warmth. It gave the impression that they themselves may not be treated well by the management.

The worst experience was during breakfast. When we arrived, no one attended to us except for a staff member who noted our room number and made no effort to check table availability. We had to walk inside the restaurant to find someone to ask whether a table was available. Even then, there was no proactive attempt to accommodate the five of us by rearranging tables. This went on for nearly 20 minutes, until we noticed two free tables ourselves and suggested joining them. After considerable reluctance, one of the staff members finally helped.

At checkout, despite requesting assistance with luggage, no one turned up for over 25 minutes.

The hotel seems to rely heavily on its proximity to the airport and corporate bulk bookings. However, for individual travelers, the service is disappointing. Considering the price paid, the experience is simply not worth it.
