I recently visited the exhibition at Sir J. J. School of Art and I really liked it. The artworks were very creative and different from each other. You can clearly see the effort and talent of the students. The atmosphere was calm and inspiring. I enjoyed walking around and observing the paintings and sculptures carefully. It was a good experience to see so much creativity in one place. Overall, I felt happy after visiting and would love to attend such exhibitions again.

I would love to give a review of this revered institution as i have heard so many tales from my mother as its her alma mater and some of her contemporaries are now famous on their own rights. With Harshad Rajadhyaksha a prominent creative leader in Indian advertising, currently serving as a Chief Creative Officer (CCO) at Ogilvy and many others who are a force to recon in this field. So back to Sir.J.J.School of Art,which stands unmoved in a world of its own.Steeped in heritage and covered in greens, the omnipresent aroma of talent and hope of the next great master of art, this 150 years old building has survived the boom years and stands stoically in the face of the changing times. With many illutrious teachers and Deans alike who came after lockwood Kipling, father of poet Rudyard Kipling, these faculty members have contributed in major ways in reiterating the European school of art with traditional Indian art and in the pricess have chosen to retain the western influences in art education. While you are there make sure to visit the library which is the oldest and most well equipped library in the art world. Also the studio facilities for both Fine and Applied arts are the best in the country. The school also houses some rare collection of art in the form of paintings, drawings, murals, sculptures, ceramic works and metal works. My mom adds that the canteen a hub of activity is the heart of the campus and holds many fond memories for her as well as ex students of this prestigious institution.

I visited the legendary Sir J.J. School of Arts for a weekend sketch meet-up with Urban Sketchers Mumbai. The campus is dotted with sculptures and paintings created by students, quietly inhabiting every corner. Lush trees, the presence of many birds, and a heritage building—likely over a century old—give the place a timeless charm.
There is something about this institute that words struggle to capture. It seems to breathe artistic energy and passion. As I walked through the campus, I saw students deeply immersed in sculpting stone, shaping wood, and carving logs. Watching them so absorbed in their work felt like witnessing yogis in meditation—unaware of passersby, untouched by the world around them.
This heritage institute has nurtured some of the finest artists and architects in the country. Though I never had the fortune of studying here, I have learned immensely about art through colleagues and friends who are graduates of this institution.

Sir J.J. School of Art is one of the pioneering institutes of fine art education in India, since its establishment in 1878 in the current Campus, with generous donation of Jamshetji Jijibhoy, under the British administration. The School today stands in the heritage building with departments of drawing and painting, sculpture and modelling, mural, portraiture, print making, arts and craftes including ceramics, interior decoration, metal work and textiles; and teachers training with art teachers’ diploma, Art Masters and Diploma in Painting Education.
