Had the chance to visit Leopold Cafe and it truly feels like stepping into a piece of Mumbai’s history. Established in 1871, this iconic cafe carries a legacy that you can sense the moment you walk in—right from its vintage interiors to the buzzing, old-school charm.
The atmosphere is lively, slightly chaotic in the best way, and filled with a mix of locals and tourists from around the world. The walls, adorned with memorabilia and stories from the past, give the place a unique character that goes beyond just food.
The menu is extensive, offering everything from Indian to continental and Chinese dishes. The food is tasty and comforting, with generous portions, but the real highlight is enjoying a relaxed meal with a chilled drink while soaking in the vibrant Colaba vibe.
That said, it does get quite crowded, and you might have to wait for a table. Service can feel a bit rushed during peak hours, which is understandable given how popular the place is.
Overall, Leopold Cafe is less about fine dining and more about the experience, history, and atmosphere. It’s one of those places you visit not just for the food, but to truly feel the spirit of Mumbai. Definitely worth a visit at least once!
Leopold Cafe is one of Mumbai’s most iconic and historic cafés, known not just for its food but also for its deep connection with the city’s past. One of the most striking and emotional aspects of the place is that the gunshot marks from the 26/11 terror attack are still preserved, making it a powerful reminder of history and resilience.
The food and drinks are good in taste and reasonably priced compared to the location and popularity of the café. They offer a wide variety of options, including Indian, Continental, Chinese food, snacks, and beverages, making it suitable for all kinds of visitors. Portions are decent, and service is fairly quick considering the crowd.
The café is extremely crowded on weekends, especially in the evenings, so you may have to wait for a table. The atmosphere is lively, vibrant, and full of energy, attracting tourists, locals, and international visitors alike. The staff manages the crowd well and remains polite despite the rush.
Located in Colaba, it’s very close to major attractions like Gateway of India and is easy to reach. Overall, Leopold Cafe is a must-visit place in Mumbai for its history, legacy, lively vibe, and value-for-money food. A place you should experience at least once.
Worth visiting once. The cafe is most of the times crowded. Extremely pricey . The food , drinks and even deserts. The cafe definitely has old school vibe + the bullet marks from the attacks are still visible. The food could have been better . The dessert was good though.
I have been here during a business trip together with a local colleague.
When you step in the Cafe there is a grund floor but also a first floor upstaris. We have been upstairs. This Was very nice and not thst crowded. We had differenr foods and desserts which all were very tasty. My german stomach managed everything well. No problem.
The Service was quick and friendy.
Next time I'm in Mumbai I will definitley visit again.
So our group just finished the famous Mumbai marathon and were looking for a place for lunch and what we found was Leopold cafe. Make sure to have prior reservation as weekends are busy with wait timings of minimum 30 minutes. Leopold Cafe is one of the Oldest & Famous cafe of South Mumbai.
The atmosphere here is so Lively and happy always, but very noisy because of the open space downstairs. Upstairs is quiet.
The quality of food is good and service is quick with friendly staff. Mutton biryani , chocolate opium and pizza are must try.
The prices are a little on higher side but worth the money. Special thanks to Tikaram for all the help and quick service.
Overall, I can always keep coming to this place anytime.
