Indian Art Studio

Today, while carrying flowers back to my room, I happened to stop at Indian Art Studio, Kalbadevi, Mumbai. Earlier, one of the gentlemen at the Studio had invited me to visit, after noticing my curiosity towards the photographs displayed there. True to my word, I returned before catching the Metro and spent some time inside this remarkable establishment.
What I discovered was not merely a photography studio, but a living repository of memories, heritage and history. I had the privilege of meeting Shri. Sanjay Chaddha, one of the fourth-generation owners of this iconic studio. The very fact that the Studio continues to be run by the fourth generation speaks volumes about its legacy and commitment to preserving the art of photography.
The old black-and-white photographs, the carefully preserved colour portraits, and the timeless architecture of the Studio create an atmosphere that is difficult to describe in words. Every photograph appears to tell a story. Every frame seems to carry the memories, emotions and lives of people from another era. One cannot help but pause and reflect upon the passage of time.
What impressed me most was that Indian Art Studio has managed to preserve not only photographs but also a sense of nostalgia. The moment one steps inside, one is transported to a different period of Mumbai's history. In today's fast-changing world, such places are becoming increasingly rare.
For me, Indian Art Studio is not merely a business establishment. It is a temple of memories, heritage and human stories. Its architecture is as captivating as the photographs it houses, and together they create an experience that every lover of history, art, photography and old Mumbai should witness at least once.
I extend my heartfelt best wishes to Shri. Sanjay Chadda and the entire Chadda family for preserving this wonderful legacy. May Indian Art Studio continue to inspire future generations and remind us that photographs are not merely images—they are fragments of time preserved forever.

I was looking to get a professional family photograph with my parents, and on a friend’s recommendation, I booked an appointment with Mr. Rajesh Chaddha at Indian Art Studio.

From the very first interaction, the experience was extremely professional. I truly appreciated how he took the time to clearly explain the entire process, making us feel at ease and well-informed.

The moment we entered the studio, we were in awe of the space. In fact, my father was so impressed that he wanted to photograph the studio itself :-)! The warmth and comfort that Mr. Rajesh Chaddha created for us is hard to put into words. It reflects not only his personal expertise but also the rich legacy of his family—being the fourth generation running this remarkable studio.

What started as a plan for one or two photographs turned into an extensive and memorable photoshoot. We ended up capturing many beautiful moments that we will cherish for years to come.
