A nice place to visit if you want to explore some offbeat places around Mumbai. You can take a train to Borivali station, from there take a bus or auto to Gorai creek jetty, you will get the ferry to Pagoda. Alternatively, you can also reach the Pagoda by road but the road will be longer. I would suggest to go for the ferry route as the journey is short but pleasant. The pagoda premises is huge, clean, serene and you can just roam around there as long as you want. For those who want to spend their weekend a little bit differently, this place is a must go.
Visiting the Global Vipassana Pagoda was a truly peaceful and refreshing experience. The massive dome without a single pillar is absolutely impressive and a great example of brilliant architecture. The architecture is absolutely stunning and shows incredible engineering.
The ferry ride to reach the place makes the journey even more enjoyable, and the calm surroundings create a very relaxing atmosphere. You can genuinely feel positive vibes all around. It is a great place to spend quality time away from the busy city life.
A Very Peaceful, well-maintained, Clean,Tidy and moderately crowded Place.
Cost-
If you come via Borivali jetty, it will cost you 100/- for both up and down.
There is no cost for entry to tge mueuk, art gallery or anywhere in the premises.
Key highlights:
1. Doing a meditation session for 10 mins in the Hall (Gallery for visitors)
2. An immersive digital session showcasing the lifestory and foundation of Vipassana of about 30 to 40 mins. This was really worth visiting.
3. Sovenir shop with loads of items.
4. On the jety ride, if you are lucky, a flock of birds will fly past and you can feed them right there.
There is a canteen for meals, food court for snacks, water supply as well. Would love to visit again and recommend the same.
Prefer going during morning or evening for sunset, as the weather would be comparatively cooler.
I recently visited the Global Vipassana Pagoda in Mumbai, and it was a truly peaceful and refreshing experience. Located near Gorai, the place offers a calm and serene environment away from the city’s noise. The grand golden dome looks magnificent and reflects beautiful architecture and spiritual significance. The volunteers are polite and helpful, and the surrounding gardens and open spaces are perfect for a quiet walk and photography. Overall, it is a wonderful place to experience peace, positivity, and inner calm, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Mumbai. And my experience is very great with it you should also visit at least one time.
The Global Vipassana Pagoda located in Gorai village near Essel World, Mumbai is declared as "One of Seven Wonders of Maharastra, which stands at approx. 316 ft tall.
The Vipasana Pagoda consists of three domes. The first and largest vipasana meditation houses relics of Budhha (donated by Srilankan Govt) in its hollow stone domes built without pillars, the inner chamber has a capacity of 8000 people at a time for meditation to promote mindfulness and spiritual harmony.
There are libraries, museums, garden with fountains, adorned circular paths wrapping up the central dome.
A cafe is there for quick eateries with a wash room and seating area.
