Classic Irani café charm with beautiful vintage, colonial-era ambience that makes you want to linger for hours. The service is average, but the food more than makes up for it - everything we tried was genuinely delicious! We had honey chilli chicken and steak with garlic pepper sauce - both were excellent!
It’s the kind of place where time slows down, perfect for long conversations or a quiet afternoon. My only wish? A little soft music in the background would make the experience even better.
So the restaurant has typical irani vibe which attracts but the food wasn't good at all. The paneer we ordered cause was very tangy. Rice bowl had no taste . Washrooms were stinky. But we would suggest that ppl come for food so if we ate good food it automatically lifts up the mood so please hire some good chef it will definitely help
I tried kheema Ghotala Pav on my last visit here and it's very delicious. A must try. Never had such creamy & soft kheema before ever.
Cafe Universal is well presented and in a convenient location, just a short walk from other bars and places to eat, which initially makes it appealing. However, after spending time there, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Prices were noticeably higher compared to similar venues in Goa that we’d visited previously, and the value for money just wasn’t there.
My partner had been here around 20 years ago and remembered it as a lively backpacker bar with plenty of atmosphere and character. Sadly, that vibe seems to have been lost. Now it feels more like an expensive local bar, lacking the energy and buzz it once had.
While everything looked polished and tidy, it felt like style over substance, with nothing that really stood out or made us want to stay longer. Overall, it was an okay experience but not a memorable one, and we wouldn’t choose to return when there are better, more atmospheric options nearby.

Cafe Universal Restaurant is a place I absolutely loved visiting. It has that classic, old-school restaurant charm that instantly makes you feel comfortable and nostalgic. The ambience is simple yet warm, just like a traditional café should be.
I tried their red berry soda and ice cream soda, and it was excellent.. refreshing and perfectly made. The food overall is really good, full of flavor, and satisfying. It’s one of those places where you enjoy both the atmosphere and the taste without any fuss.
A timeless restaurant with great food and a classic vibe.. definitely worth visiting again!
