The oldest authentic south Indian restaurant. Most fav is idli wada, but my favourite is Idli Gadbad. Awesome dish. Other very popular dishes are mysore sada dosa, dilkhush dosa, upma, super pineapple sheera and authentic south Indian filter coffee. Try rasam glass (a small glass of rasam water).
A/c seating on first floor, and non a/c on ground floor. Very clean. The service is super quick. The only issue is very difficult to get car parking.
Visited Cafe Mysore, Matunga with high expectations as it’s one of the well-known South Indian spots in Mumbai. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype.
We tried the Gadbad Idli, which sounded interesting on the menu, but taste-wise it was quite average and not up to the mark. The flavors felt unbalanced and it lacked the authentic punch you expect from a classic Matunga eatery.
We also ordered the Dilkhush Dosa (stuffed). The presentation was decent, but again, the taste didn’t justify the reputation or the pricing. It felt heavy and not particularly flavorful.
What disappointed us more was the customer service. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, which affected the overall dining experience. When a place carries such a strong reputation, basic hospitality should match the food quality.
Overall, in my opinion, it feels a bit overhyped. There are other South Indian restaurants in Matunga that offer better taste and service at similar or better prices.
Would consider revisiting only if there’s noticeable improvement.
Cafe Mysore is one of the older cafes in Matunga. I remember eating here when i was little. I decided to head back here for nostalgia's sake but it was disappointing. The interiors are pretty much the same, though they have made some additions to the menu. We wanted to try their idli steamed in jackfruit leaves but it wasn't available. Next we got the gadbad idli which was just idli sambhar with some sev and dahi and it was quite average. Next we got the dilkhush dosa which was basically a mysore masala dosa but dripping with ghee. The only saving grace was the filter coffee.

Parking & Access 🚗
There is no dedicated parking lot or valet service at the cafe itself.
Being right on Matunga’s King’s Circle area, finding street parking can be challenging, especially during peak morning and evening hours. You may need to park in nearby public parking areas or use paid parking zones near the circle and walk a short distance.
If driving isn’t convenient, the cafe is very well connected by local transport, with King’s Circle railway station just a short walk away.
Best For: Authentic South Indian breakfast/lunch, quick meals, family outings, casual meet-ups.
We tried their signature dish khotto idli which was only dish we liked at this place. It has unique taste because of jackfruit leafs.
Pineapple sheera and rassam wada was good though.
No doubt that Place is overhyped
We tried Mysore masala, dilkhush dosa, tomato omelette sandwich and coffee was average in taste but not worth for price.
