Ate and drank at Cafe Mondegar in the afternoon of the Saturday 16th May 2026. We ordered butter chicken and garlic cheese naan and also had a beer with it.
Food was really good and so was the beer! Place was busy but the food came quickly and was good. Must visit when visiting Colaba.
Fun, lively retro vibe with funky music and decor, and delicious food! We stopped in after the Gate of India / Elephanta and were surprised by how good the food was for a “touristy” place. The tables are quite close together, but manageable; we came in on a Sunday for lunch and luckily had no wait. Highly recommend the cheese balls and chicken tandoori especially! Pricier compared to other places in Mumbai, but still affordable (we spent $22 USD total, including food and 2 beers).
This cafe which serves beer better than coffee is located in the prime location of Colaba, next to the Colaba market. There was long queue of waiting for the table. I believe its the manager of Cafe Mondegar (huge, heavy voice) who was very impatient who kept shouting at the waiters in front of all the customers and pushed the people behind who were standing in the queue for the table coz his mood wasnt good. His attitude wasnt accepted at all.. Except for what i had to experience by him, rest all were fine. Chilli cheese toast and cutlet were delicious and must try. Burger was very average and mocha was poor without any proper chocolate proportion in it. Very noisy place.. i liked the Ambience but not during the weekend.
One of the iconic hangout cafés among locals n tourists alike. Amazing vibe n good food including continental and Indian cuisines. They have a music station where u can play three preloaded songs chosen by u at the cost of 100 bucks. They also have souvenir collections for the tourists which include cutlery n tees! V tried cheese mushroom omelette, cheesecake, paneer croquettes n spring rolls. They also serve fresh fruit juices. Alcohol and Decent coffee varieties are available as well. Must visit cafe while in Colaba / South Bombay.
Visited Cafe Mondegar on a Saturday, the wait time was 20 minutes, which is pretty normal for this place. The vibe is very much that of a busy bar with great music, lively energy, and a crowd that adds to the experience.
The service was excellent, our server Nirmal was amazing, extremely welcoming, and the food arrived quickly despite how packed it was. That really stood out.
We tried Fish Fingers and Chips, Chicken Spring Rolls, Chicken Arabiata, Chicken Burgers, French Fries, Chicken Reshmi Tikka, Caramel Custard, and Chocolate Mousse.
Everything was a 10/10 in terms of taste and quality, except the fish fingers, which can be skipped.
Overall, it’s a place that gets the music, service, and food right, surely worth the visit ✨
