What a lovely food and lovely evening.
Watermelon ceviche is a must try.
The staff was very kind and helpful which helped to choose the best dishes and also explained the best way to scoop the dish to have the most flavours and best experience.
Wine collection could be improved. Cocktails and mocktails were really good.
Overall i see this such a great place in Bandra for anyone to experience gastronomy.
Bandra born has to be the Talk of the Town for the Amazing food menu and specially the Cocktails served at the outlet. We tried several of their Mahura based Cocktails crafted superbly by Ravi shetty and his team. It just makes you keep trying more Of their Bar menu which is not always the Case in the restaurants of the City. Had their Famous Crab curry with Crossant style bread- Must try. And thier Staff styled Chicken wings. Overall its an Experience all the Foodies in Mumbai need to have. Kudos to the entire team!
Its a bit of an edgy place that is designed around the cultural identity of bandra, it has little tit bits around the decor and menu that folk from bandra might find relatable or nostalgic. The food draws inspiration from some quintessential east indian, manglorean, catholic cuisine all the while staying modern and cosmopolitan. They have a brilliant range of cocktails that unique and easy on the eyes, but not as easy on the pocket.
All in all it has great unique food and drinks. It is definitely not mainstream and is one of those things that you either love or you hate.
A weekday evening at BANDRA BORN
A vibrant, nostalgic journey through the heart of Bandra, blending a cool-urban aesthetic vibes.
The space opens into a high-energy millennial living room featuring graffiti-adorned walls, dim lighting, and a curated playlist of old-school hip-hop and rock that sets a buzzy, informal tone.
• Malai Podi Toast with Stracciatella: A savory, inventive spin on the classic cheeni malai toast, featuring podi butter and creamy stracciatella served on cumin-flecked focaccia.
• Grandma’s Fanny Prawn Dish: A heartfelt homage to local heritage, this dish recreates a traditional family recipe, offering robust, home-style flavors presented with modern technique.
• Posh Hersch Puff: An elevated take on the humble Bandra chicken puff, where flaky pastry is "drowned" in a luxurious, umami-rich truffle and wine sauce.
• Venus Jam Cake: A hallowed tribute to the iconic local Venus Bakery, this moist cake is served with a mixed berry sorbet to balance its nostalgic sweetness.
The overall experience is designed to feel like a love letter to the neighborhood, making it an excellent choice for those looking for innovative small plates that pack a significant umami punch
First off - it’s quite expensive, so I’m not factoring that into this review.
The food is new and comforting at the same time, like a vintage car with a brand new engine. The drinks are thought out and the cocktails might actually deserve their four-digit price tags. Have a chat with the bartender and he’ll explain where the liquor comes from, how long the flavor has to sit in a dungeon before being released, and maybe give you a taster if you’re nice enough.
Imagery aside:
- the food tastes great;
- the portions are surprisingly large for similar restaurants in Mumbai (which does make up for the price somewhat);
- the drinks are memorable (unless you have too many); and
- the ambience is fine - it’s on a busy Bandra street though so I think they’ve done well with what they had. You can still see Salt Water Café’s bones sticking through the walls (the place that was here before Bandra Born was…born)
All in all - I would and have and will recommend this place to my friends and family.
Some photos attached and specific recommendations below:
1. Granny’s prawn dish - raw mango bits, soft buns, CURRY 11/10
2. Malai podi toast - 9/10 (but refreshing)
3. Raviraj at the bar recommends and serves great drinks
