I had a very disappointing experience with Star Health Insurance.

I have been trying to close my policy for over a month now. I raised multiple tickets through the app, but they were repeatedly closed without any proper resolution or clear explanation.

I am an NRI and currently living outside India, so it is not possible for me to visit a branch office in person. To make things worse, the Star Health app does not function properly outside India, which makes it even more difficult to manage or close my policy.

When I contacted my agent for assistance, he initially responded but later completely stopped replying to my WhatsApp messages and never completed the cancellation process. Being ignored while trying to close a policy is extremely unprofessional.

I was also told that I could not update my bank details after closing my bank account and would instead need to cancel my existing policy and purchase a new one — which meant losing the premium rate I had previously locked in. This was very frustrating.

On top of that, my gender was incorrectly reflected in the app, and despite following up multiple times, it was never corrected.

The lack of accountability, poor communication, and unresolved issues have made this a very stressful experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Star Health Insurance.

No tie ups with even half decent hospitals and as a policy they refuse reimbursement unless you get a court/authority order. So many people have faced this problem with them- This insurance company is full scam.

MY FIRST AND WORST EXPERIENCE IN LIFE FOR HEALTH CLAIMS AND REGRET BUYING HEALTH INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY WITH TALL CLAIMS AND MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS IN MEDIA THAT PATIENTS CLAIMS ARE SELTTLED IN HOURS OF SUBMITTING
IN REALITY A PATIENT IS AT THE MERCY OF NON PROFESSIONALS HANDLING CLAIMS IN THE COMPANY ,THEIR COMMUNICATIONS WITH POLICY HOLDERS IS ONE WAY ,THEIR EMAILS BOUNCE BACK ,THE CUSTOMER INTERACTION NUMBER GIVEN BY THEM IS ONE WAY AN EYE WASH BECAUSE IF YOU DIAL BACK THE RECORDING SAYS NUMBER DOESNT EXIST

THEY DONT RESPECT AND TRUST EVEN VERY SENIOR CITIZENS AGE 75 AND ABOVE , EVEN DONT TRUST GENIUNE HOSPITALS AND ACTUAL TREATMENTS BE IT EVEN SERIOUS CHEMO THERAPY PATIENTS WHO UNDERGO MONTHS OF TREATMENTS AND ACTUAL EXPENSES ARE DENIED BY HARASSING PATIENTS TO PRODUCE TONS OF MEDICAL DOCUMENTS & EXPENSES INCURRED BY PATIENTS.
POLICY HOLDERS ARE TREATED LIKE SUSPECTS EACH CUSTOMER WITH GENIUNE MEDICAL RECORDS AND EVEN IN THEIR OWN APPROVED HOSPITALS ARE TOLD TO FOLLOW PROTOCOLS WHICH IS BEYOND UNDERSTANDING OF A COMMON MAN WHO IS MIRED IN TAKING DIFFERENT TREATMENTS REPORTING TO DIAGNOSTIC CENTRES TAKING SCANS SPENDING LAKHS OUT OF POCKET WITH A HOPE THAT HAVING A INSURANCE COVER PAYING HIGH PREMIUMS HE FEELS ASSURED THAT SINCE HE HAS A VALID MEDICAL POLICY HE IS SURE TO GET REIMBURSED BUT THE INHUMAN TREATMENT METED OUT AT STAR HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY CRASHES HIS HOPES A RETIRED PERSON SURVIVING ON SAVINGS IS TOSSED AROUND FOR ACTUAL DUES ,ANY APPROACH TO THE MANAGEMENT OR THEIR MD IS IMPOSSIBLE TO APPRISE THEM THAT THEIR REPUTATION IS AT STAKE

THEY SEEM TO BE THICK SKINNED EVEN AFTER SO MANY BAD REVIEWS FROM MANY GOOGLE LOCAL GUIDES EARLIER AND AND TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES OF PATIENTS REVIEWS IN MEDIA
IT HAS NOT MADE A PENNY DIFFERENCE TO THEIR RUDE BEHAVIOUR AND THEIR INDIFFERENCE TO CARE FOR THEIR POLICY HOLDERS ,HIGH TIME HEALTH MINISTRY LOOKS INTO SUCH COMPANIES TAKING POLICY HOLDERS FOR A RIDE AFTER PREMIUMS ARE PAID TO THEM AND PROFITS THEY ENJOY WHO CARES FOR CUSTOMERS
INSURANCE REGULATORY BODY IRDAI ALSO TURNS A BLIND EYE AND HAS NOT TAKEN ANY SERIOUS ACTION TO PROTECT THE POLICYVHOLDER AGAINST SUCH A FRADULENT INSENSITIVE COMPANY WHICH HAS FREELY BEEN OPERATING IN OUR COUNTRY WITHOUT FEAR

Very poor experience due to excessive telemarketing. My phone keeps ringing with sales calls that I never asked for. No matter how many times I decline or block numbers, new calls keep coming. This shows poor management and zero concern for customer consent. Health insurance is a sensitive matter, and such unprofessional behavior makes me question how responsibly the company actually operates.

Update June 2025: The center is accepting documents again. Experience has also improved.

Update May 2025: This centre is currently not accepting documents.

March'25: Visited Star office to submit physical documents after having online approval. Unfortunately, the process is the same for those without online submission. There's no parking outside, and they don't allow parking inside even when space is available. The staff isn’t courteous or responsive, though they do get the job done. Only one counter handles document submissions. The person there is efficient but clearly overburdened.
